Let's get right down to the critiques:
Brady, your ice cream cones reminded me of my time as a young Iron Boy walking down the streets of my childhood. On weekends I'd stroll on down to Newtown and stare into the giant storefront windows, gawking at the employees pile on scoop after scoop of green apple ice cream. Alas, I was too young and too poor to buy my own ice cream because I was always told it'd spoil my dinner.
I like your use of colour to represent the different flavours of ice cream, however I would have liked to see some more variety in the patterns. Those waffle cones look delicious, but I don't think I could grab just one with my block hands. No sprinkles? No cherry on top? Show me some taste!
CrashingCarrot, are you the young man sharing a roast chicken with this young hermitess? I like the clever use of cutlery on the dining table--the fork, spoon, and plates, they're instantly recognizable. Since you're eating a chicken with a fork on the left side, are you also telling us that you're left handed? Interesting detail you may or may not have shared knowingly.
I would have liked to have seen a bit more detail used on the table and chairs. Perhaps one colour of wood for the table and another for the chairs, or placemats made of a coloured terracotta block under the plates.
Finally, Themoddedguy, I think you win points for using the widest spectrum of colours. There's a little bit of the whole colour spectrum in your piece and that's something that comes to mind when I think of food. Mom is showing off her guns while baby is gobsmacked in amazement.
I like the detail in the bananas and the speech bubbles, but would've liked to see a full-bodied shape from mom other than just her top half.
This week's entries were all excellent--so excellent in fact that I had to go to my lovely girlfriend as a supplementary judge to break the tie for me. With that said, allow me to congratulate the winner of our first build challenge theme: CrashingCarrot! You've won our grand prize of a stack of diamonds!
The scene you created was complete involving both subjects and a setting. The three-dimensional designs of the table and persons sitting also gained you some points that really stood out to me.
All of our contestants will also take home with them a consolation prize from our sponsor. Please come see me at the Hammer Region Pole to collect your prize.
Thanks for participating, see you on the next challenge!
