Some of you may know, I just got a free computer from my Grandmother (not a stranger)
but when I play Minecraft, it gets real glitchy:
- I have very low FPS
- Sometimes the game freezes, which I know is my computer, since I tested it on other servers
- I sometimes get stuck in game and when I get unstuck, well, I disconnect
What is NOT the issue - The Internet
- The Server
- Computer Heat (I have a special stand that airs out the bottom of the laptop
- Laptop battery, I uninstalled it
What I did that did nothing - Changing the amount of Ram Minecraft can use
What I did that helped -Nothing
What computer, software and Ram am I using I am using a late 2008 MACBOOK (apple) I am running on the latest version of OS 10, Yosemite I am running on 8 GB of ram that works in my computer (the whole 8GB)
my previous laptop had 1GB of ram and did 100x better than this one, so I think something is up
this is a thread to help me, not to criticize apple products
thanks

Does the laptop ever produce alot of heat?
What CPU are you using? (just curious)
Also are both ram modules running at the same speed or are they from different manufactures?

And I would not get a laptop for gaming period. Even if it's Minecraft or other light games. The Mac book pro's from 2008 have old architecture CPU's and when you get a desktop, you can get better hardware because they don't need to be compacted into a small space and companies have to worry about overheating so they make low frequency CPU's just to get the temperature down by 10 degrees F. But since you got the laptop for free it's worth it. But the person you got it from probably had to give it away because there was something wrong with it. Also maybe update your drivers if you can and set the battery usage to "performance". Hope my advice helps ;D.

I have a special stand that removes all heat from under the laptop, plus, my batterie is not installed yet, so no heat from that I am using a late 2008 MacBook, running on OS 10: Yosemite Both are from the same manufacturer, and I have installed 2 4GB modules

My laptop was given to me by my grandmother, since she got it and used it once, the only problem it had is that it had 2GB of ram and the battery was inflating. My previous computer, a early 2007 MacBook Pro was able to do every thing without a problem and even ran on 2GB (I have over 100 FPS in game(sadly that computer exploded)) As I said before, I removed and ordered a new battery for my laptop, but with or without, there is no difference

How much RAM can the computer actually take? If you're not using compatible cards, it won't read it at all and will default to 256mb for RAM, which is what the computer naturally has.

My old potato phone can also keep up with about 20 tabs in chrome. That doesn't say that it's indeed using all the RAM. I may be able to help you with compatibility issues if you give me actual spec readings.
Edit: in fact, depending on the Mobo, even if it does read 8gb ram, Mobo may not be able to utilize it. So again, actual specs would be helpful.

lost my good computer and now my good laptop. This one just doesn't work with MC... Has 6G ram an i5@2.5Ghz it could be able to, but often its the graphics card that is stressed. Would thing both my old lenovo T420 and your 2008 Macbook would work, but maybe they both need decent video cards.
We also moved and the internet here is a little weird... so my issues could also be the connection.

Trying some more setting changes. default JVM memory is 1G and adding extra didn't help. Be sure to turn the mipmap levels off - that helped a lot for this poor laptop 10FPS not 1

freezing could be memory - how much memory does MC report? In game with F3 take a look at the right top for Mem: xx% When you first start the % is low like 5 or 10 but then goes up as you play. If it gets near 80 or 90% then could give MC more memory. You set the amount before the game starts and is not really related to your computer memory.
