I have set up minecraft to use half of my computer's memory, and there is not much difference.
Also, my computer has a REALLY hard time running mods, like foolcraft, can someone tell me the 1 million dollar secret to get it started?

Again, we really can't help you unless we have specs to work with. You're basically saying "I have this thing, I did something to make it better. How fix?"

Might be a HDD problem, if it's still using the original. (laptops can eat those things if they're not treated gently)

Also, in my town, there is a computer parts shop with things for all devices, including my laptop. If I should renew some of the chips or things like that, it would be great to know!
