Public Regions
So you've decided to be a social butterfly and open up your region for people to live in. Here are some tips just for you:
Do's
DO report grief. Tell a senior about a known griefer or signs of grief immediately so they can take action.
DO claim the region pole. If you claim the pole, you are the mayor of that region (max. two regions) and can set rules and building guidelines.
DO post your rules in a public place. If people can't read them, they will probably break them.
DO limit your region to a certain number of players. The more people you have living in your region, the less control you have.
DO inclose the region pole. You don't have to prevent people from entering the region, but some sort of system that makes players read the rules is always advised.
DO claim your house and surrounding areas. You don't want people building too closely.
DO make your builds look nice. If people see good-looking builds, they might strive to make their builds more appealing.
DO zone your region. Mark out areas for building and what types of structures can be built where.
Don't's
DON'T make your region 100% public. You should at least make players check with you before they start building.
DON'T make too many or too complicated rules. Try to limit yourself to five, clearly-outlined rules to prevent confusion.
DON'T expect everyone to move to your region as soon as you open it up. Most people like their privacy.
DON'T take over an inhabited region. It's best to start with an unnamed region.
DON'T make 100% public farms. Claim them, and give trust to only people who live in the region.*For automated farms, you should subdivide an output chest.
If-You-Want-To's
IF YOU WANT TO, create a large claim and subdivide it. This way, people will be unable to build in places you don't want them to.
IF YOU WANT TO, make your region more desirable. Create a path, street lights, maps, and mailboxes.
IF YOU WANT TO, name your region. This way you don't have to invite people individually. Beware: this is an invitation to griefers.
IF YOU WANT TO, start your region with a friend or appoint co-owner(s). This way you can have more people to help enforce rules.
Is there something I should add? Let me know!
Best of luck starting your society.
