How long have spawn kits been standard given when a player joins the server? Four years. Full set of wooden tools and some food. Been exactly that without change for four years. Almost to the day.

Look, what I meant by spawn kits was a stone sword axe pickaxe which are given to you once you start off on the server, sorry if my wall of text diluted that nugget of information EDIT: Sorry, hayan posted at the exact same time as me 😂

There are few select people who read and ask around at spawn before venturing out and those are the ones that tend to keep their starter kits. It gives me a nice chuckle when I see some players with their starter kit in their base.
As for free food, there are plenty. Cooked chicken at CfC and free carrots at Valley. Plenty of livestock also spawn in the resource world. Many players also have no problem sparing food to new players. I personally survived off of zombie flesh and milk my first two months on the game when grass wasn't a thing and seeds could only be gotten off villages.
As a server that mimics vanilla, those who play vanilla well, often have no trouble. And those players tend to keep their inventory.
Statistically, I'd like to add that funnily enough, it's the older players (ages 20+) that tend to keep their starter kits.

Not me! Lost my chest of items when I changed regions and forgot where I travelled from

Yeah, I used the wooden tools as sources to make charcoal when I first joined the server. I believe I still have my 'How to claim land' book in a chest somewhere.

There's a how to claim land book, I never got that! Would've come in handy instead of reading through the wall of text that is the essentials plugin manual(well now it's much better it used to be awful)

I'm starting to realise players aren't reading the signs as often. I was told by a new player that the spawn was bland. Maybe the spawn could be worked on? I would personally help, but I can't

I could make spawn have one sign and people will still not read. That's the way it's been and that's the way it will be. It's no fault of our spawn.
I don't want or need new players. If they can't read, they often end up breaking rules and get kicked or banned anyhow. It thins the herd. We have a massive server where you can take land for yourself and build how you want in it. I think asking you to read a few signs is the by far the smallest request we could have of players.

For a long time. It's just wooden tools and an apple or 8.
Oh wow didn't see that there is a page two!

There was a spawn chest? I just got an apple. I think the shulker events are cool. You guys are overthinking this. If skulkers are too expensive, im sure i can set MEC on getting them and selling them at super discount prices . He has been selling ely's for fairly cheap (80k), when he has them.

Mr_terminator, your point being what? My point is that if new people join during events, he/she will only get 1 shulker box and will only have one for a while, since events have some time in between. Plus, i don't really find shulker boxes that important, since its just extra inventory space.

Maybe some questions which without answering you cannot go further, I'm pretty sure it can be done with command blocks.
