Okay, so around 8:00 pm (EDT), the server goes white-listed till like midnight. Is there a reason for this, thanks in advanced?

Im not sure exactly, but I do know the server resets once every night. That could be why. But more likely it was the seniors trying to reduce lag by kicking everyone off and working on the server alone to tear down inactive builds causing lag

between those hours it's the most crowded. since players themselves cause lag too and this isn't the biggest server, maybe the whitelist means the server is at full capacity and can't take any more players on?

iirc it's due to server maintenance. It's only a temporary whitelist affecting the odd person here and there, but it goes away right afterwards.

The server will restart at 4am eastern every day, but all that happens is it kicks online players and restarts.
Whitelisting only happens rarely, usually early saturday or sunday morning if something particularly laggy needs to be done or if multiple restarts are expected.
I'm not sure why you would get a whitelist error.
