There is talk of the combat system being redone. Also, on the vertical redstone topic, thats what torch towers are for. If we could plce redstone on walls it would make things easy to the point of modded minecraft. They added "gears" once a long time ago which were vertical redstone, but it only lasted a day or two. torches cause a 1 tick delay

You can create slab towers to bypass that, but you've got to have the space for that.

Gears were NOT vertical redstone, they were intended as a medium for a mechanical energy system instead of redstone

I personally LOVE the 1.9 combat mechanics because mobs weren't really hard to kill before (skellies were a bit of a challenge, but other than that most mobs were easy to kill.) I would probably A. install a mod that brings the 1.9 combat system back or B. make the mod myself if there was no mod for the combat system if the combat system was totally changed (yes, i know how to make mods.)

The difference between fortnite and MC is that fortnite is a one-hit wonder in terms of video games. Remember that overwatch had similar hype and was almost completely cast into the dust when fortnite came out, the same will happen, just you wait. correct 100% I see Minecraft as the Lego of computer games. 1)Every game that has come before has had an objective or a set task (like most toys). Minecraft really lets you take the game in whatever direction you want: pvp, builder, mechical, survivor. Lego was very similar for me. 2) Minecraft keeps getting exciting updates with new stuff. Things are continually improving. I have seen the same thing with Lego, to a point; things have changed dramatically with their blocks over the last 30 years.
In conclusion, Lego has had staying power, and for similar, if not stronger reasons, so too will Minecraft. Fortnight is like Pogs... if any of you know what those are, if not... proves my point. Floki

I completely agree with you! Minecraft always keeps things fresh. In every new world you start, you will always build something different than you have before. Nevertheless, I'd like to see updates being a bit smaller and more frequent. The 1.9 update added a new part to the end, elytras, shulkers etc. That, of course, couldn't be done in multiple updates. The 1.13 update however, could really be. Give us the new ocean. Then add the new slabs/blocks etc. Although, this would of course break things much faster so there also is a downside to it. If they'd suddenly added floating items, then most of us would have to rebuild things again. Then there comes water inside of stairs and slabs etc. and it would break things again.

Ok a couple other things that would be nice for an update.
Rivers and creeks that flow like real life. I have had to manually lift lakes and rivers in my region to get them to flow. I have also had to manually create creeks. This would probably require a massive change to the terrain generation system.
Allow skulker boxes to be opened simultaneously with chests. Possibly, if you enabled it as a "back pack". Basically if you put the skulker in your chestplate/elytra slot, it acts as extended inventory in the GUI.

On the creeks thing, you may notice that all bodies of water in the game is located at the same level, which I believe is y=60. This is because, unlike the earth, the mc world is flat as a countertop. Flowing doesn't work because all water is on the same level surface ant there is no way for water to go up.

I've never seen a river flow up in real life. Don't they all go down? What they'd have to do is put water source on land so it can all flow to the lowest point like it already does. The problem with this is is that it could create massive bodies of water if it flows to all the sides.

Or you could do a similar thing to what the quark mod does where it has a flowing water block that is flat on the surface

Also, observers work as vertical redstone.
