Claim issues

Hello!
So I'm having some claim problems.
I can't ever seem to 'resize a claim.' Everytime I do so, it unclaims the rest of my claim. It's become very frustrating because I end up having to get rid of my claim I already have and completely redo the claim.
What am I doing wrong? lol
